It was Sunday, so we decided to go to the 11 am mass at the Trinita dei Monti at the top of the Spanish Steps. We called the front desk to double check the mass times and unfortunately there was no 11 am mass at the Trinita, but the concierge pointed us to a nearby church off of Cappuccino street. After several wrong turns, we finally made it to the church which was dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The church wasn't as big as the Trinita or the Chiesa, but it was just as beautiful and it was filled with paintings of the Holy Mother. The mass was in Italian, but I had my Daily Roman Missal so we could at least follow the readings. All the mass parts were the same as any other Roman Catholic mass, but in Italian.
After mass, we decided to grab lunch at the Cafe Greco near the bottom of the Spanish Steps, so we went and had a cappuccino and a tomato and mozzarella sandwich The food and cappuccino were good, but a little overpriced.
Sophia and I decided to return to our hotel room and freshen up and change before heading out. We called the Colosseum and it was closed, as was the Vatican, so we were left wondering what to do. We decided to walk down to a supermarket we had stopped by on our way to the Pantheon and pick up some supplies.
On our way to the supermarket, we stopped by a gelato chain restaurant called Blue Ice and, as with the other gelato places, it was excellent. Thankfully, the supermarket was open and we picked up some prosciutto ham, salami, cheese, Fanta drink (it is much better here in Italy and much cheaper at the supermarket compared to a drink stand), dried bread slices, and a nail cutter. We paid less for all of these supplies than we did for lunch a little earlier.
We came back to our hotel room and enjoyed the ham and salami with the cheese and dried bread slices. There was a possibility of going out to a nearby garden called the Piazza Borghese, but we decided to save our strength and just turn in for the day.
